IT Security Tzar Eugene Kaspersky Visits Indonesia Visit Demonstrates the Importance of Indonesia’s Market for Security Software

Jakarta, 8 October 2009: Eugene Kaspersky, CEO & Co-Founder of the world renowned security software Kaspersky Lab is today in Indonesia for a four-day visit, which includes a trip to Yogyakarta to deliver a special lecture titled “Taking Responsibility for the Internet” at Gajahmada University on 10 October 2009.

This is the first time ever a CEO & Co-Founder of a global Internet security company comes to Indonesia to meet face-to-face with local users of Kaspersky’s anti-virus protection, dealers and distributors. Kaspersky’s visit to Indonesia is part of his very first official tour across Southeast Asia, and Indonesia is the first country on his itinerary despite of the recent earthquake tragedy expressing his warmest sympathy and strong moral support to the people of Indonesia.

Kaspersky also officiates the formation of K-Klub, an online meeting place that provides Kaspersky’s fans, customers and members of the public with a forum for interaction. K-Klub is an integrated online community where they can can share their thoughts and interests, exchange ideas and meet other fans. The site can be accessed at www.kklub.net.

The growing IT threats in the world continues to increase. Eugene Kaspersky, known as a fighter for cybercrime taking this as a very serious matter to look at. As part of his personal move to this, he will be giving a lecture titled “Taking Responsibility for The Internet” in Universiti Gadjah Mada outlining reasons for e-crime, formulating and designing a safe e-world, and internet government.

“Today, it is extremely difficult to imagine learning, working, communicating or even living without the Internet. Unfortunately, as we all know, the Internet is full of hazards,” says Eugene Kaspersky. “Our goal is to work with responsible users to keep the Internet as safe as possible.” He said.

Indonesia is a highly potential market for Kaspersky Lab. The number of Internet users in the country, according to APJII, has jumped substantially from two million in 2000 to 25 million at the end of 2007. In addition, its mobile users are also one of the most active in the region. Yet, Indonesia is one of the countries where online attacks are most rampant. This has enabled Kaspersky Lab to grow its business here by 100 percent year-on-year in 2007 and by 272 percent y-o-y in 2008. Another ingredient for Kaspersky Lab’s tremendous success is the availability of local support, which ensures fast response to customer needs.

In the individual users segment, Kaspersky Lab ranks at the top in Indonesia when compared with other anti-virus products based on volume. In the corporate segment, the company ranks fifth based on volume. The ratio between the consumer and the corporate segments is 45:55. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia contributes to the company total business in the region the fourth after Thailand.
