Installation and Activation Process for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010
If you already have Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 installed and need to activate, please read our Kaspersky 2010 Activation page.
Before you begin:
If this is your first version of Kaspersky on this computer, please make sure you have removed your previous security software in the Control Panel prior to installing Kaspersky. Should you need help removing the previous program, check our list of competitor removal tools.
If you are installing using the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 CD, please skip to Step 2.
If you have purchased online, follow Step 1 to download your software.
Step 1 - Save the Installation File:
If you have Dial-Up Internet, it is suggested to wait for the Backup CD to arrive to install the software.
Click the download link provided in your order email to begin the download process. If the link has expired, you can download from our Kaspersky Anti-Virus Product Updates page.
You will be asked to Run, Save or Cancel the download. Click Save.

The web browser will ask you where to save the file. Use the drop-down menu to select your Desktop, then click Save. This will look different if you are using Windows XP or another web browser other than Internet Explorer.

The download process will begin, and depending on the speed of your Internet connection can take a few minutes to up to an hour.

When the download completes, click Close.

Close all open windows except this web page, then locate the file on your Desktop.
If you have Windows XP, double-click the file to begin the installation process.
If you have Windows Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run as administrator. If prompted, click Continue.

You may receive a warning that the publisher could not be verified. Click Run.

Step 2 - Install Process:
You will briefly see the install process copy the installation files to your computer. Wait for the process to finish.

The install process will check if there is a newer version online and download it if needed. Wait a few seconds.

The Setup Wizard will open. Click Next to begin an Express Install.
If you wish to do a Custom Install check Custom install but this should not be need for most users.

Please read the End User License Agreement and click I agree.

Please read the Kaspersky Security Network Data Collection Statement. This allows us to collect new viruses detected by behavior (Heuristics) as well as non-personal data about how you use our software.

The install process will begin copying files and adding registry values. Please wait.

You may see a notification from the Windows Security Center that there are problems. This is normal and will automatically resolve itself after the process completes.

Step 3 - Configuration Wizard:
If you did not previously have Kaspersky, or your previous license expired, you will be prompted to Activate a commercial (retail) license. Enter your 20 character activation code, which is 4 sets of 5 characters, or XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. The wizard will automatically capitalize letters and add the dashes. Click Next.
You can find your activation code on your order email or CD sleeve.
If you are not asked to activate, the wizard has detected your existing valid license. Should you need to activate after the install completes, follow these steps to activate Kaspersky 2010.

Please wait while the wizard connects to our Activation Server and activates your Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

After the license is installed, you will see the License type and Expiration date. Click Next.

The installation and activation processes are now complete. Click Finish to open Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 will automatically begin an Update in My Update Center. When this update completes, your Kaspersky Anti-Virus will have the latest databases and the Windows Security Center messages will go away.

Q: I am trying to install but am getting an Incompatible Software message. How can I clear this?

A: This indicates the download is incomplete or damaged. Please download the installer file again.
Q: Should I leave the Windows Firewall on or off?
A: Kaspersky Anti-Virus does not include a Firewall, but our full-featured Kaspersky Internet Security does. Please leave the Windows Firewall on.
