Installation and Activation Process for Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables
If you already have Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables installed and need to activate, please read our Kaspersky 2009 Activation page. Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables is a special version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, so the below install process is the same for both programs.
Before you begin:
If this is your first version of Kaspersky on this computer, please make sure you have removed your previous security software in the Control Panel prior to installing Kaspersky. Should you need help removing the previous program, check our list of competitor removal tools.
If you are installing using the Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables USB Flash Drive, please skip to Step 2.
If you have purchased online, follow Step 1 to download your software.
Step 1 - Save the Installation File:
Click the download link provided in your order email to begin the download process. If the link has expired, you can download from our Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables Product Updates page.
You will be asked to Run, Save or Cancel the download. Click Save.
The web browser will ask you where to save the file. Use the drop-down menu to select your Desktop, then click Save. This will look different if you are using a web browser other than Internet Explorer.
The download process will begin, and depending on the speed of your Internet connection can take a few minutes to up to an hour.
When the download completes, click Close.
Close all open windows except this web page, then locate the file on your Desktop.
Double-click the file to begin the installation process.
You may receive a security warning. Click Run.
Step 2 - Install Process:
You will briefly see the install process copy the installation files to your computer. Wait for the process to finish.
The install process will check if there is a newer version online and download it if needed. Wait a few seconds.
The Setup Wizard will open. Click Next to begin an Express Install.
Please read the End User License Agreement, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.
Click Express install. If you wish to do a Custom Install click Custom install but this should not be need for most users.
Click Install to being the installation.
The install process will begin copying files and adding registry values. Please wait.
You may see a notification from the Windows Security Center that there are problems. This is normal and will automatically resolve itself after the process completes.
Click Next to begin the Configuration Wizard.
Step 3 - Configuration Wizard:
The Configuration Wizard will ask a few questions. Click Next.
Click Activate online.
Enter your 20 character activation code, which is 4 sets of 5 characters, or XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. The wizard will automatically capitalize letters and add the dashes. You can find your activation code on your order email.
Do not check I already have a Customer ID. Click Next.
If you are not asked to activate, the wizard has detected your existing valid license. Should you need to activate after the install completes, follow these steps to activate Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables.
Please wait while the wizard connects to our Activation Server and activates your Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables.
After the license is installed, you will see the License type and Expiration date. Click Next.
The wizard will check the Windows files and set levels for each application for the Application Control. Please wait for the process to complete.
If you have Outlook, Outlook Express or Thunderbird mail client installed, the Configuration Wizard will analyze your email. Please wait.
Please read the Kaspersky Security Network Data Collection Statement. This allows us to collect new viruses detected by behavior (Heuristics) as well as non-personal data about how you use our software.
Click Next.
Click Yes.
The installation and activation processes are now complete. Click Finish to allow your system to reboot.
Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables will automatically start after the computer reboots. If you receive a message saying Databases are obsolete, click Update now. When this update completes, your Kaspersky Security for Ultra Portables will have the latest databases and the Windows Security Center messages will go away.
